Transport-independent group and session management for group communications platforms
نویسندگان
چکیده
With more and more computers gradually changing from isolated, personal tools to networked workstations, group communications is an area of research which has received much attention recently. This paper focuses on a model and the architecture of a system which supports group communications by providing group and session management functionality. The system architecture is related to DNS or X.500, however avoids their complexity by focusing on group and session management and adding functionality where necessary. New functionality is needed for the dynamics of group communications (members of a connection may change over the lifetime of the connection) and increased complexity of relations which may be established between objects. A model is described which de nes six object types which represent the relevant objects. Users and groups represent real world users and their relations. Sessions and ows describe ongoing group communications. Flow templates and certi cates provide mechanisms for management and security issues. The architecture presented in this paper can be used for group and session management support within di erent group communications platforms. A description of the implementation as well as implementation results are given in the last section.

A Group and Session Management System for Distributed Multimedia Applications
Distributed multimedia applications are very demanding with respect to support they require from the underlying group communication platform. In this paper, an approach is described which aims at providing group communication platform designers with a component which can be used for powerful group and session management functionality. This component, which can be integrated into group communica...
متن کاملTransport Session Management for Multicast Transport Protocol
This paper describes the transport session management (TSM) architecture and mechanisms for one-tomany multicast sessions. TSM is one of the crucial components for the multicast transport protocols, along with the reliability management. The main purpose of TSM is to maintain an active Transport Session stable and desirable. TSM is also extended to support the effective billing/charging and t...
متن کاملKronos: A Scalable Group Re-Keying Approach for Secure Multicast
In this paper, we describe a novel approach to scalable group re-keying for secure multicast. Our approach, which we call Kronos, is based upon the idea of periodic group re-keying. We first motivate our approach by showing that if a group is re-keyed on each membership change, as the size of the group increases and/or the rate at which members leave and join the group increases, the frequency ...

The paper seeks to identify Starbuck's experience in using social media, understand how social media is linked to customer knowledge management, and assess how social media services could have contributed to Starbucks success. Starbucks demonstrates versatility to engage customers and support different part of customer knowledge management strategy through various social media platforms, such a...
متن کاملToward integrating IP multicasting in internet network management protocols
Supporting multi-point group communications in network management platforms is essential for improving scalability and responsiveness of management applications. With the deployment of IP multicasting as the standard infrastructure for multi-point group communications in the Internet, the integration of IP multicasting in SNMP becomes signi cantly important to achieve these goals. This paper pr...
